Help Us Bring the Chace Back to Life 💛

Big buildings have long memories. And Chace Hotel has stories—layers of laughter, late-night chats, wedding nerves, business deals, Sunday lunches, first shifts, last orders, and everything in between.

Now we’re rolling up our sleeves to restore this much-loved landmark, and here’s the truth: we can’t (and don’t want to) do it without you.

This isn’t just a renovation. It’s a community memory-making mission.

📸 Got Photos? We’d Love to See Them

Do you have old photos of the hotel—inside the building, the bar, the bedrooms, the function rooms, the gardens, the car park, the kitchen, anything?Blurry. Faded. Printed. Digital. Taken on a disposable camera in 1998. We want them all.

Every image helps us understand how the hotel looked, felt, and worked at its best—and helps guide how we bring that magic back.

🗣️ Were You Part of the Chace Story?

We’re especially keen to hear from:

  • Former staff – receptionists, chefs, cleaners, managers, bar staff, maintenance legends

  • Suppliers – food, drink, linen, flowers, furniture, tech, laundry

  • Customers & guests – weddings, conferences, overnight stays, “we always came here” regulars

Tell us:

  • What did the Chace mean to you?

  • What moments stand out?

  • What made it special?

  • What should never be lost?

Short anecdotes or long rambles—both very welcome.

💭 Dream With Us: What Should the Restored Hotel Be?

This is where we really want your imagination.

If the Chace were beautifully restored tomorrow, what would you love to use it for?

  • A cosy local bar or lounge?

  • Weddings and celebrations?

  • Business meetings done properly?

  • Afternoon teas, Sunday lunches, live music, community events?

  • Somewhere you’d recommend friends and family stay?

What would make you say: “Yes. This is our hotel again.”

🛠️ Calling Local Legends: Trades & Suppliers

Restoring a hotel takes skill—and we want to work with local suppliers and tradespeople wherever possible.

If you’re a:

  • Builder, carpenter, electrician, plumber

  • Decorator, tiler, flooring specialist

  • Landscaper or grounds expert

  • Furniture maker, restorer, or interiors specialist

  • Food, drink, or hospitality supplier

…and you’d like to be part of bringing the Chace back, we’d love to hear from you.

❤️ This Is a Community Project

The Chace Hotel isn’t just bricks and mortar—it’s part of Coventry’s shared history. With your memories, ideas, photos, and skills, we can make sure its future is just as meaningful as its past.

So dig out those old albums. Share that story you’ve never written down. Tell us what you’d love to see through those doors again.

Let’s bring the Chace back—together.

Are you putting a bar on the front? Like it used to be. There are no longer pubs in the area.

Hi Phil,

Yes there are definite plans to re-use the area fronting London Road as a pub/place to eat.

As soon as we have sketches etc we will share them.

I only worked there for a year but worked with some lovely people. They came from all over the world; Australia, Spain, South Africa, Bulgaria, Ireland. Sure I have missed some off. Locals too of course. Me being one of them.

It was over 20 years ago so I will have to see if I'm still friends with them on FB to get staff photos!

I feel like for this to be a success you need to have 2 parts 1 for the locals and the 2nd for hotel guests and weddings. Think it was called the Iliffe, but the building on the side would make a lovely pub for the locals.

Good luck. It's great to see investment in…

That's such a kind offer. Thank you and we will certainly take you up on it maybe when it gets a little warmer out there.

To answer your question, yes we will be re-opening the pub/bar area fronting London Road as a place for locals to eat and drink. The locals are very important to us!

This is where I met my partner and all of my closest friends, we are all still friends, after so many years. The memories and pictures I have of this place are unreal, i even have pictures up in the turret part of the hotel. We are holding off booking a venue for our wedding because we both have so many memories of the place, we would love to get married there. We even lived in the hotel during lockdown, with the kids. Amazing news that it is reopening. Can't wait
